Viva la Soilwork May 22nd 10.05 /
Construcdead’s debut album Repent came a few years ago and was an uncompromising melody free trash/death metal album. Now when the new album Violadead has arrived a lot of things has changed. Singer Jonas Sandberg has been replaced by Peter Tuthill. Tuthill’s growling is harsch and angry just like Sandbergs but Tuthill doesn’t just scream. No, he actually sings over most choruses. The music is still very heavy but has a lot of more dynamic and melodies. The reason for this is spelled Soilwork. Soilwork has taken Constcucdead on tour and the album is also produced by Soilwork’s Peter Wichers. A couple of other Soilwork members are also guesting on the album. I haven’t heard the whole debut album but one thing I liked about the songs I’ve heard was the very competent solo playing. Violadead also has a lot of good solos but not as good as Repent.
The opening track “Pinhook” is a kick ass heavy track with a lot of dynamics and melodic choruses that makes me think of Soilwork. “Rise” is old school Contstrucdead with heavy riffing. “Bricks” is probably the song on the album that sounds most like Soilwork. “Hate” starts with heavy riffing but in the middle of the song the music slows down for beautiful clean guitar playing and continues with a very pushy strong outro that makes you want to go crazy in the pit. Wounded is the single track and one of the least heavy songs (that’s probably why they picked that one as a video track). The album should have been shortened with two or three songs but I really like this! Good guitarplaying (escpecially the heavy stuff). The band has a lot of interesting idéas but not all of them work. Construcdead is probably going to refine their songwriting even more to next time.
