So! Randy’s catchy, melodic, energetic, swenglish punk rock is back on another album, and it’s hard for me not to compare this album to the band’s last effort, “The Human Atom Bombs” (Burning Heart 2002), since that one’s become one of my favourite albums ever after I reviewed it last year. They used the same winning concept in making this album; again it was produced and recorded by Pelle Gunnerfeldt, mastered in Polar Studios, and Henrik Walse was hired for the cover design. The songwriting, though, has become less interesting in my (unfortunately not so X-Ray) eyes. It’s more straight forward punk. More shouting and hammering on the instruments. Less sing-along friendly melodies and slow reggaeish parts. The fantastic melodies are there, there’s just not enough of them to keep me interested all the way through. Especially now that the songs aren’t kept down to 2 minutes anymore, but land on a more standard 3 ½, with a few more guitar solos, but also more repeating and less action. There’s still a few songs that satisfy my need for catchy melodies, such as “Fucked Up More or Less”, “Bad Bad Bad”, and the two singles “A Man in Uniform” and “X-Ray Eyes”, but over all it's just not as good as I know these guys can do it.
