Political grindcore
Nov 15th 11.11 /
Shift is the follow-up to the grammy winning “Helvete”. Grindcore as a genre is very overrated but Nasum is one of the few bands that do something own. Since Helvete Nasum have two new members, bassplayer Jon Lindquist (Victims, Saayadina, Acursed) and guitarist Urban Skytt (Regurgitate). Both members have contributed with songs. The production is more raw than Helvete. “The engine of death” feels almost like a cold Dark Funeral song and at the end of the song Nasum surprise the listener with the most melodic solo and stick they’ve ever done. “Wrath” is another stand-out track with no grind drumming at all and one of the riffs actually make me think of Korn! The music is extreme and furious but still full of cool hooks, fills and heavy riffs.
Although Mieszko A. Talarczyk vocals are high pitched instead of the genre’s ordinary cookie monster growling, you will probably not notice that a couple of songs are sung in Swedish. The lyrics are angry, political and intresting to read. The longest song is two minutes and thirty-four seconds. Nasum are speeding through 24 tracks on this album (their debut had 36 songs!). Nasum are evolving with every release and it will be intresting to see where the go next.
